"To defeat but not to destroy the enemy" is the motto of Julius Kainz, who also holds the honorary title of "Kommerzialrat".
From 1991 on Kainz has caused a sensation for reforming "Die Presse". After all, he succeeded in bringing the paper from being chronically in deficit into the financially profit gaining area by 1999. Also within the same period of time, he increased the number of readers from 203.000 to 343.000 people. In 1995, Kainz was additionally the publisher of the traditional newspaper.
Knowing Julius Kainz and his dedication to "Die Presse" it's hard to imagine this editorial manager before "Die Presse" as publishing manager he also had a “Life Before“. But Kainz joined Styria in 1958 and soon became marketing manager of the newspaper publisher's. In 1968/69 he was appointed to Head of Publishing/Publishing Director and in 1997 became a board member of Styria Medien AG.
As well as his work at Styria, Julius Kainz was also involved as president of the Verbandes Österreichischer Zeitungen (VÖZ-Association of Austrian Newspapers). He was consecutively voted five times to this position and which even required a change in the statutes of the Association. Furthermore, he is a member of numerous international organizations closely linked to media, such as being chairman of the committee “Grazer Dom” (Graz Cathedral). So we need not worry about what his leisure activities are since his retirement at the of age 65 in the middle of the year 2000.
